A Miss GB Glasgow finalist has revealed how she will honour her uncle fighting cancer.

Brooke Cameron is taking part in this year's Kiltwalk in Glasgow next month to raise money for The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

The 19-year-old, who lives in the city centre, wants to help people like her 62-year-old uncle, Douglas Philand, who is currently fighting Langerhans cell sarcoma - after he already beat Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Brooke explained: “After finding out I was a finalist for Miss GB Glasgow I instantly knew I wanted to raise money for The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

“My uncle has used the service a lot after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and Langerhans cell sarcoma.

“We are really close. He has always been my biggest supporter and so proud of me, anything I can do to give back to him I will.

“He had a good experience with the services the charity offered him and he wants others to get the help he did so raising money would help that.

“My uncle was a nurse himself so when he began to feel unwell he got himself checked out, now we are waiting for more results to see if he has been cured.

“We really hope he will beat it very soon, he has had a lot of treatment and is a really amazing person.”

Brooke is preparing to compete in Miss Great Britain Glasgow this July which will see her stun in bikini and ballgown rounds.

She explained how she almost didn’t apply but now can’t wait to take the stage this summer and represent the city.

Brooke said: “I was so shocked to find out I was a finalist for the Miss GB Glasgow competition, I was actually too scared to even apply.

“I thought I would just follow them on social media out of curiosity but when they messaged me suggesting I could be an ideal candidate I took it as a sign.

“Even after that I didn’t think I had a chance but when I found out I was through I was really happy.

“The event is this summer and I will find out if I have won, after that all the regionals go up against each other to find Miss Great Britain.

“I am focusing on getting ready for the bikini and eveningwear rounds, the Kiltwalk will also help me get my steps up for them!”
