AN UDDINGSTON Primary has had an end-of-term boost after inspectors gave children and staff a fantastic “report card”.

The Education Scotland team described St John the Baptist Primary as having “a powerful sense of community” and added: “This contributes positively to the warm and nurturing relationships across the school. As a result, children learn in a happy and inclusive community of faith and learning.”

The report also praised “children who are welcoming, friendly and polite” and added: “They are proud of their school, keen to learn and engage well with their learning activities.”

The inspectors said school staff worked effectively with a range of partners to support children’s learning and wellbeing needs and added that staff supported “all children’s wellbeing very effectively.”

Three areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from South Lanarkshire Council.

Inspectors recommended the school should “increase the involvement of children, parents and partners in evaluating the work of the school”, “increase the pace and challenge in children’s learning activities to enable them to make the best possible progress” and “develop further approaches to check children’s progress in learning and achievements across the curriculum.”

Catherine Currie, headteacher, said: “I am delighted with our inspection report which recognises our school’s warm and nurturing culture and ethos.

“The report highlights that our children are, rightly, very proud of their school, engage well in their learning and are happy, friendly and polite.

“I am very grateful to the whole team. Staff, parents and partners consistently support us and work very effectively with us, to achieve positive outcomes.

“We look forward to continuing to build our community of faith and learning.”
