A GLASGOW teacher is said to have had a sexual relationship with a former pupil and allowed him to stay at her home after he stabbed a man.

Laura McEwan has been struck off after admitting to various allegations in a removal order from the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).

McEwan admitted to drinking alcohol with former S6 pupils in April 2019 whilst employed by Glasgow City Council as a teacher at Castlemilk High School.

She is also said to have formed and maintained a sexual relationship with an ex-pupil shortly after he left school in 2019.

According to a document published by the GTCS, the former pupil attempted to murder a man by stabbing him in August 2020.

McEwan, who was working at Castlemilk High and latterly Drumchapel High, is alleged to have left the scene with the former pupil before police and emergency services arrived.

She then allowed him to stay at her home.

McEwan is further alleged to have tried to persuade a witness not to provide her name and address to police.

The GTC described McEwan’s actions as “dishonest and lacking in integrity” and as such the regulator believed her fitness to teach is impaired and she is unfit to do so.

McEwan has now been removed from the GTCS register and is prohibited from applying for a period of two years.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: "The former teacher was suspended following allegations and resigned in September 2020.”
