Rangers are poisesd to announce Russell Martin as their next manager before the weekend.

In recent days, former Ibrox defender Martin has emerged as the frontrunner to be the permanent successor to Philippe Clement, edging ahead of Davide Ancelotti.

It was claimed early this week a deal was almost at completion but that was rowed back on with sources close to the club insisting a final decision had not yet been taken on who would be the new boss.

But now, the Rangers Review is reporting a deal is close to being finalised and signed and the new boss could be in place by the end of the week.

It is claimed the finishing touches are being put on the contract while the make-up of his backroom team is with the board for approval.

Martin’s long term assistant boss Matty Gill is being lined up to come with him having worked together at all three of his clubs - MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton.

While former Gers player Maurice Ross will also take a spot on the coaching team having forged a relationship with Martin when they did their coaching badges. Further additions to the coaching staff are expected and we looked at who that could be.

It is believed Ancelotti was still keen on the job despite suggestions he had his eye on Como with Cesc Fabregas being linked with Inter Milan.

Martin was also linked with another job as a strong candidate to take over from Ruud van Nistelrooy but stalled on that while he waited so see what would happen at Rangers.

He could now be confirmed as the new Gers boss before the end of this week, with players due back for pre-season on June 23.
