An 86-year-old man has shared how a love of rugby and a chance encounter on the dance floor shaped his life.
Kenneth Barrie, now a resident at Douglas View Care Home in Hamilton, has been reflecting on the lasting impact of rugby and family — two forces that have defined his story.
His love for rugby began during his school days at Hamilton Academy between 1950 and 1955.
He then joined Hamilton Rugby Club in 1955, where he played as a centre for 35 years.

During his time at the club, Kenneth helped lead his team to multiple league-topping seasons, becoming a respected and well-loved figure in the local rugby community.
But his story extends well beyond the pitch.
In 1964, a fateful evening at Hamilton Dance Hall introduced Kenneth to Lilian, who would become his beloved wife.
Together, they raised two children, Gordon and Alison, and built a life full of treasured memories.
Though Kenneth eventually hung up his boots to focus on a successful career as a civil engineer, his love for rugby never wavered.
He remained a devoted supporter, often attending matches with his son at Murrayfield Stadium and sharing his passion for the sport with his family.
Now living at Douglas View Care Home, Kenneth continues to be a source of inspiration to staff and fellow residents.

Charlene Curtis, manager at HC-One Scotland’s Douglas View Care Home, said: "Kenneth is a wonderful member of our community at HC-One Scotland’s Douglas View Care Home.
"His stories about rugby and family life not only entertain but also remind us of the importance of living with passion and purpose.
"We’re honoured to care for him and celebrate his life.
"We’re committed to providing the kindest care, and it is a privilege to be part of Kenneth’s continuing journey – one shaped by love, legacy, and a lifelong commitment to the game he holds dear."
Still full of humour and stories, Kenneth is a daily reminder of how sport, family, and a little romance can shape a life well lived.
