Rangers' £15 million asking price for Hamza Igamane could scupper a transfer deal.
French club Lille are keen on the forward, and talks had reached an advanced stage.
However, the fee Rangers are demanding might now be a stumbling block.
L'Equipe has reported that the Ligue 1 side are "studying other profiles besides that of the Moroccan international," despite ongoing discussions with Rangers.
Lille have already signed Olivier Giroud and are close to securing Vivaldo Semedo from Udinese.

They might now look elsewhere to strengthen their forward line.
Earlier reports suggested that Igamane was not a priority for Lille, as Semedo had emerged as a target.
However, they were still planning to pursue a deal later in the transfer window.
Rangers manager Russell Martin is keen to strengthen the squad with some of the funds that could be generated from selling Igamane.
So far, he has brought in Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, and Emmanuel Fernandez, as well as Lyall Cameron, who had already been signed on a pre-contract agreement.
Thelo Aasgaard and Nasser Djiga are also expected to join the squad soon.
