A new sponsorship deal is helping a historic rugby club aim for new success on and off the pitch.
West of Scotland Football Club, based in Milngavie and founded in 1865, has announced a partnership with Specsavers Byres Road as it begins its 2025/26 season.
The sponsorship will see the men’s and women’s 1XV teams supplied with new kits and given regular eye checks.

Ian McDiarmid, president of West of Scotland Football Club, said: “West of Scotland has been at the heart of the local community for more than 150 years and our legacy is built on strong ties with locally owned businesses.
“As we aim for success in the coming seasons with both our men’s and women’s senior teams, it’s vital our players are not only kitted out for performance but also have their vision in top condition.
“We’re hugely grateful to Specsavers Byres Road for their generous support – it’s helping us look the part on the pitch and keep our eyes firmly on the ball.
“We look forward to building a lasting partnership between two Glasgow institutions.”
Specsavers Byres Road said the partnership reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting grassroots sport in the local community.

Sean Mageean, store director at Specsavers Byres Road, said: “Grassroots sport plays a huge role in bringing people together and strengthening communities, and West’s history and success speak for itself.
“We’re passionate about giving back to the community that supports us, whether that’s through providing expert eye care for local families or helping teams like West achieve their goals on and off the pitch.
“We’re proud to be backing both their men’s and women’s teams this season and to make sure that when they’re chasing victory, they can see it coming a mile away.”
