The co-leader of Your Party will visit Glasgow later this month ahead of the new party's founding conference.

Zarah Sultana, who founded the party alongside former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, will speak at the Community Central Hall in Maryhill on October 24.

She will be one of a number of prominent speakers from across the left who will discuss how Your Party will look, what it offers working people across the country, and how the Scottish party will work with those from across Britain.

One speaker who will join the MP in Glasgow is former MSP, trade unionist, and prominent socialist campaigner, Frances Curran.

The former Scottish Socialist Party MSP has joined the new party.

Zarah Sultana MP, co-leader of Your Party, said: “Your Party should be one that puts Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands.

“A party built from the ground up - where members set the course, not leaders behind closed doors.

“It should be a movement that fights for real autonomy, not just in our politics but in our party itself.

“No more decisions made by Westminster or by a select few. Your party should embody the democracy we demand for Scotland: open, accountable, and driven by the grassroots.”

Launched in August, Your Party - a temporary name ahead of its founding conference - has suffered a difficult start to political life.

Ms Sultana announced in July that she and Mr Corbyn would be forming a new party, but the former Labour leader had not been expecting the announcement, and was reportedly "frustrated" by the timing.

Last month Your Party officially launched membership, promoted by Ms Sultana, only for the fellow founding members to call it 'an unauthorised email'.

She then accused her fellow founders of treating her "appallingly" and excluding her from "what can only be described as a sexist boys’ club".

On September 24 a new membership portal was launched, with the 20,000 who had signed up to the original link transferred over.

The party intends to hold its founding conference on 29 and 30 November at the ACC in Liverpool.

When the new membership portal was launched, Ms Sultana said: "I’m a member of Your Party - and if you haven’t joined yet, you should too. I’ll remain a fierce advocate for the grassroots – and will continue to fight hard for maximum member democracy.

"For those who joined the previous system: data and membership will be migrated across in due course. We have a world to win. Let’s get to work!"

This was seen by some as a climbdown from her co-leader position, but in the announcement of her visit to Glasgow she is billed by that title.
