Danny Rohl wants to create an attacking Rangers team which excites fans, and reckons he has the squad to achieve it.

Now in the door at Ibrox after his confirmation today, the German is straight into the thick of it with training tomorrow for Thursday's Europa League game against Brann. Then it's Kilmarnock in the league on Sunday.

The club is in need of an uplift after Russell Martin's disastrous tenure, with the sacked former head coach heavily criticised for being stubborn on the style of play he attempted to implement.

Rohl has delivered a plan which will delight fans - focus on winning first before trying to bring in an exciting, attacking style.

In his first Rangers TV interview, he said: "At first wins because this is the most important key. We have not so much time, but I will not make this as excuses.

"We know where we are and we know which direction we want to go. We want to play attacking football. That means we have to press very high, we have to press with intensity, we have to be connected in all the parts of the game. We need good transition moments in both directions, and it means every player on the pitch has to hunt the ball.

"And finally, we want to create a lot of chances and goals. And this is why people go in the stadiums. They want to see not draws or small wins, they want to see exciting wins. And this is what I'm trying now today."

Assessing the squad he has at his disposal, he has been very optimistic despite them winning just one game from eight in the league and struggling in Europe too.

Winger Djeidi Gassama is one he worked with at Sheffield Wednesday and he has mentioned him when discussing the "exiting, young, talented" group he has inherited.

He added: "I think we have a great balance with very exciting young, talented players. One of them I could train in the last two years. I'm very proud of him. And we have experience, and I think this is exactly what we need. We need a great balance.

"I'm a coach who is looking forward to young players because this is not about the age, it's just about the quality of the players. And when I look to the squad, I must say we have really good players. But, and this is now my job to do, bring the quality on the pitch from the players and make from the individual quality a good team with high quality. This is what I want to do."
