Former Rangers manager Philippe Clement could be set for a return to management with Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais.

The French club are reportedly considering dispensing with current boss Habib Beye after a disappointing start to the season, which has seen them achieve just two wins from their first eight matches.

This has left the team sitting ninth in the league table, with just two wins from eight, along with five draws and a defeat.

The Belgian has been out of work since then, and is said to be on a shortlist of potential candidates to replace Beye, should Rennais choose to part ways with him.

Foot Mercato reports that there are already names lined up, with Clement and former Bologna and Juventus manager Thiago Motta.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri confirmed the speculation, saying: "As explained by @Santi_J_FM, Philippe Clement is a name on the short-list of Stade Rennais if the Breton leaders were to part ways with Habib Beye. A list that also includes the profile of... Thiago Motta."

Clement has been out of work since being sacked by Rangers in February this year. The Ibrox club have since had Barry Ferguson (interim), Russell Martin, and now Danny Rohl in the managerial hot seat since his departure.
