Rangers' new head coach, Danny Rohl, once worked all night to prepare for a Sheffield Wednesday match.

Despite knowing he would not be with the team for the current English Championship season, Rohl also held 40 planning meetings.

His commitment was questioned during his time at the Hillsborough outfit when relations with owner Dejphon Chansiri worsened.

Rohl decided last season that Sheffield Wednesday was not the club to continue fulfilling his ambitions, given the challenges of working with Mr Chansiri.

Negotiating his release, however, was not straightforward.

As a result, the 36-year-old had to return to Sheffield over the summer and take part in a couple of weeks of pre-season.

He approached this with the same level of professionalism as always.

Some fans questioned his dedication towards the end of last season, but this is something he vehemently denies.

Rohl told The Times: "Just a small example," [In March] we played at Plymouth on Saturday and Norwich on Tuesday and I worked on Monday over the whole night.

"I didn’t sleep, to prepare for Norwich.

"If someone speaks about my attitude, that something changed, it’s completely wrong.

"What changed in the second half of the season was not me but the mood at the club."

The same article reveals how Rohl diligently prepared the club for a campaign he would not be around for by scheduling and carrying out 40 planning meetings.

His assistant, Chris Powell, also highlighted Rohl's hardworking nature.

He said that Rohl would watch an upcoming opposition team 10 or 11 times, while Powell himself would watch three or four times.

Powell joked: "I’d say, ‘Don’t you ever sleep?’"
