Former Celtic player Peter Grant has urged the club to "let it ride" with interim manager Martin O'Neill.

Grant, who played 483 games for Celtic, believes the club should not rush into appointing a successor to Brendan Rodgers, who resigned more than two weeks ago.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Grant said: "What would I be thinking at this moment in time? For me, I would let it ride with Martin.

"I wouldn’t rush it."

Grant suggested that Celtic should wait until the cup final has passed, or even until the transfer window opens at the start of the year, to make a decision on a permanent manager.

He added: "It gives the club a bit of time to make what they think will be the right decision."

He praised O'Neill's experience and the job he has done so far, but does not think he will be given the job full-time due to his "stage of life" and the travel involved.

The former player thinks he should remain with the club to help the new manager, saying, "I would still ask him to help.

"I’ve said the same thing about Rangers before. You ask someone like that to help and guide the new manager.

"He knows what it takes to be a Celtic manager."

O'Neill has won three out of four games since returning to Celtic, including home victories against Falkirk and Kilmarnock. He also led the team to the Premier Sports Cup final by defeating Danny Rohl's Rangers in the semi-final at Hampden.

The club is currently in the process of interviewing candidates in London and are getting closer to appointing a new manager. There have been several names linked with the job since Rodgers resigned.
