A Newton Mearns man who was found to have drugs in his system four times over the legal limit has been banned from driving.

Barry Williamson was caught on the M8 motorway between junctions 28 and 27, at Paisley on March 11.

The proportion of benzoylecgonine in Williamson’s of Bowmore Way, litre of blood was 205mg.

Benzoylecgonine is the substance your body makes after breaking down cocaine.

The legal limit for that drug is 50mg per litre of blood. Williamson therefore had over four times the specified limit in his system.

Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill fined the 25-year-old £600 and ordered this to be paid at the rate of £50 per month.

In addition, Williamson was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to resist the extended driving test if he wishes to drive again.
