Commuters in Glasgow faced travel chaos this morning as Storm Bram sparked yellow weather warnings.

The Met Office flagged that the deluge of rain, expected to amount to 20 to 30 mm in a brief four to six-hour window, has already caused travel disruptions this morning.

They said that the spell of heavy rain is expected to move north across the Central Belt on Tuesday morning.

The adverse weather conditions are anticipated to linger until midday.

The Met Office noted the likelihood of extended travel times due to road spray and potential flooding.

Public transport, including bus and train services, might confront delays, while a handful of homes and businesses face a risk of flooding.

Adding to the travellers’ woes, a warning for wind remains in effect from midday on Tuesday, set to last until 6 am on Wednesday.

The Met Office said: "Southerly winds in association with Storm Bram will strengthen on Tuesday afternoon with the strongest winds transferring north from England and Wales into Scotland overnight before gradually easing during Wednesday morning."

They also warned of "Gusts around 50 to 60 mph are possible fairly widely, and potentially in excess of 70 mph for some exposed headlands and high ground."

The forceful winds are likely to bring about some delays across multiple transportation modes, including road, rail, air, and ferry services.

There are also warnings of a potential short-term power loss in certain areas.

As a direct consequence of this turbulent weather, rail services across the country have confronted delays, with speed restrictions enforced this morning.

ScotRail issued an advisory to customers to check their respective routes prior to travel: "Disruptive weather is expected across the country, with the worst of conditions in western and northern areas."

Additionally, Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland, stated: “Storm Bram is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain, which could disrupt the railway. Our top priority is keeping passengers and staff safe, and we’re already working hard behind the scenes to prepare."

Network Rail further expressed their preventive endeavours: "Teams are carrying out extra inspections and putting contingency plans in place, with staff ready to respond quickly to any damage throughout the storm.

"We’ll be monitoring conditions closely and doing everything we can to keep people moving safely."
