Safety concerns have forced the closure of a Glasgow Christmas market, with Storm Bram currently battering the city.

A Glasgow Christmas market has closed due to safety concerns, as Glasgow is being battered by Storm Bram.

The festive attraction at Glasgow Green, along with the Winter Wonderland at St Enoch Square, shut on December 9 from noon until midnight as the city is under several weather warnings.

Event organisers said the closures were due to public safety concerns and "expected adverse weather conditions."

A Winter Wonderland spokesperson said: "Due to expected adverse weather conditions and in the interest of public safety, organisers have decided to close both Winter Wonderlands at Glasgow Green and St Enoch Square on Tuesday December 9, from 12pm until 12am."

The decision follows heavy rainfall and strong winds brought by Storm Bram.

The Met Office warned that 20 to 30mm of rain could fall within a four to six-hour window, causing delays, road spray and potential flooding.

Forecasters said heavy rain is expected to move north across the Central Belt on Tuesday morning.

Glasgow has already experienced travel disruption, with flooding and road spray contributing to hazardous driving conditions.

Public transport, including rail services, has also been affected.

We reported earlier today that commuters are facing travel chaos due to the storm.

ScotRail issued an alert to passengers, advising them to check their routes before travelling.

They said: "Disruptive weather is expected across the country, with the worst of conditions in western and northern areas."

Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland, said their teams were focused on keeping passengers and staff safe and minimising disruption.

He said: "Storm Bram is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain, which could disrupt the railway.

"Our top priority is keeping passengers and staff safe, and we’re already working hard behind the scenes to prepare."
