Train services on a busy Glasgow line could be axed today.

Due to engineering works running over time in the Kilwinning area, commuters are being warned that trains could be delayed or cancelled. 

The affected services run between Glasgow Central and Ayr, Largs, and Ardrossan Harbour.

ScotRail has issued a statement to inform passengers of the disruption.

They said: "Due to overrunning engineering works near Kilwinning, delays or cancellations to services are possible on Glasgow CentralAyr / Largs / Ardrossan Harbour services.

"Please check your journey on our app or website for the latest updates."

The works are taking place between Paisley Gilmour Street and Dalry.

Network Rail has apologised to any customers who have been affected.

In a statement, they said: "We're dealing with overrunning engineering work between Paisley Gilmour Street and Dalry, which is disrupting Glasgow Central - Ayr, Largs and Ardrossan services.

"We're working to complete work and reopen the railway ASAP. We're sorry for the disruption this morning."
