A nursery has officially adopted the newly revamped East Kilbride railway station.
St Kenneth’s Primary School and Nursery Class have taken on East Kilbride station under ScotRail’s Adopt a Station scheme, which encourages schools, community groups and charities to help enhance their local stations.
Pupils and staff from St Kenneth’s Nursery Class will work with ScotRail on creative projects, including artwork displays, gardening and seasonal decorations.
AmcoGiffen, the contractor behind the station redevelopment, will provide planters and plants for the children to tend as part of the scheme.
The station adoption aims to foster community pride and engagement while giving pupils a chance to learn about rail safety, sustainability and the role of public transport in their local area.
Jacqui Greenlees, early years team leader at St Kenneth’s, said: “With little hands and big hearts, St Kenneth’s Nursery is proud to adopt East Kilbride railway station.
“We look forward to making it bloom with vibrant colours and creativity, and to cultivating a sense of belonging and pride in our local area.”
The £9 million redeveloped East Kilbride station formed part of the wider £144 million East Kilbride Enhancement Project to improve the route between East Kilbride and Glasgow.
Funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by Network Rail, the project is part of efforts to decarbonise Scotland’s railway and improve service reliability.

Paul McKay, communications director at ScotRail, said: “We’re delighted St Kenneth’s Nursery has joined the ScotRail family through our Adopt a Station programme.
“Their involvement will help bring the new East Kilbride station to life and strengthen the connections between the railway and the local community.
“The East Kilbride Enhancement Project is all about delivering a better, greener railway for future generations, so it’s fantastic to see young people getting involved and preparing to make their mark on the station.”
Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, marked the completion of the East Kilbride Enhancement Project at an official event on Monday, December 8.
On Sunday, December 14, 2025, ScotRail began operating modern Class 380 electric trains on the route between East Kilbride and Glasgow Central.
