Here is a round-up of our recent coverage of Glasgow Sheriff Court cases, as reported by court reporter Connor Gordon.

The following cases were heard between January 14 and 16.

Drunk Celtic fan groped woman at title party

A drunken Celtic supporter who groped a female fan during title celebrations in Glasgow has avoided jail.

Shaun Rae, 42, sexually assaulted a 28-year-old woman at Barrowlands Park near the city centre on May 18, 2024, as hundreds of fans gathered to celebrate the club’s league win.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Rae grabbed the woman on the buttocks, leaving her frightened and intimidated, before later swiping her legs away and causing her to fall to the ground in pain.

Rae, of Summerston, denied the allegations and claimed any contact would have been no more than a “glance”, but was convicted after a trial.

Sheriff David Taylor said the woman gave “strong and very credible” evidence, while Rae’s account was “unreliable”.

Rae was placed on the sex offenders register, ordered to undergo supervision for a year and tagged for six months, confining him to his home between 7pm and 7am as an alternative to custody.

Peter Mullan attacked after trying to stop thug assaulting partner

Top Scots actor Peter Mullan was viciously assaulted after stepping in to protect a woman being attacked by her partner in Glasgow.

The Trainspotting and Braveheart star intervened after witnessing Dylan Bennet, 29, violently assaulting his partner near the O2 Academy on September 20, 2025.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Bennet seized the woman by the neck and shook her, before Mullan stood between them and told him police had been called.

At that point, Bennet headbutted the actor, leaving him injured, before also brandishing a glass bottle during the incident.

Bennet, who had been drinking heavily and taking drugs, pleaded guilty to assaulting both Mullan and the woman.

Sheriff Iain Fleming jailed him for 18 months, describing the attack on the award-winning actor as an assault on an “innocent bystander” who had tried to do the right thing.

Police officer stole missing man’s Apple Watch during search

A disgraced police officer who stole a missing man’s Apple Watch during an inquiry has been branded a “despicable human being” by a sheriff.

Leonidas Deliroglou, 30, took the device from a car belonging to Mark Hodgkins while assisting in a missing person investigation in Glasgow’s Battlefield area on May 28, 2024.

The court heard Deliroglou lied to colleagues by claiming he returned the watch to the vehicle, before keeping it for himself as he travelled between police stations and Barlinnie prison.

He was caught after officers noticed the watch was missing and tracked its GPS location, which matched Deliroglou’s movements.

Deliroglou, who resigned from Police Scotland on January 14, pleaded guilty to theft and was ordered to carry out 220 hours of unpaid work.

He was also tagged for six months, placed under supervision for a year and narrowly avoided a prison sentence.

Sheriff Allan McKay said he would have been justified in jailing the former officer, adding that stealing crucial evidence during a search for a vulnerable missing person was among the worst misconduct he had seen.
