Celtic have been installed as favourites for the title after slashing Hearts' lead to two points.

Martin O'Neill's team turned up the heat on the capital club by defeating the ten-man Motherwell side 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

This, combined with Hearts' loss to Kilmarnock later that day, reduced the previous five-point lead down to two.

Rangers are also in the mix, sitting just one point behind their Glasgow counterparts after their Sunday victory over St Mirren.

Hearts, who were previously the evens favourites, have now shifted to the 2/1 spot with bookmaker Betfair following their lacklustre performance in Ayrshire.

Betfair spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom, weighed in on the developing tension.

He said: "As the drama continues to unfold across Glasgow and Edinburgh following the latest round of results in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic are now the clear odds-on favourites to retain the trophy, having cut the gap at the top to just two points."

This makes Celtic the 10/11 odds-on favourite to keep hold of their crown.

Rangers, on the other hand, are at 11/4.

Rosbottom also shed light on this: "Long-time leaders Hearts have drifted to 2/1 after defeat to Kilmarnock, having previously been Evens to go all the way."

"Meanwhile, Rangers are 11/4 to lift the trophy, with the division's top two well within their sights."
