There have been 17 bids for Fireworks Control Zones in Glasgow for later this year

Glasgow City Council revealed the number from people in communities across the city after there were three zones put in place last year.

FCZs mean it is a criminal offence to set off a firework anywhere in the zone , including private gardens.

The legislation was introduced to allow councils to impose restrictions in areas that have been blighted by anti-social behaviour around bonfire night in November.

Last year, from November 1 to 10 there were zones established in Pollokshields, Govanhill and Broomhouse.

It followed years of residents enduring excessive setting off of fireworks in the areas.

Police Scotland will enforce the restrictions. Penalties for breaching a firework control zone include up to six months in prison and or a fine of up to £5000.

Glasgow City Council said the consultation for new Firework Control Zones (FCZs) is open until 19 May 2026.

All FCZ proposals from communities across Glasgow can now be accessed on the Consultation Hub link to have your say on FCZ for 2026.

If a request is accepted, the formal process would begin as stated in the guidance for consultation on FCZ.

The three Firework Control Zones established in 2025 - Pollokshields, Govanhill and Broomhouse - will remain in force for November 2026.

Communities within these areas do not need to reapply.
