Former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady has praised Rangers' new signing, Dan Neil.

Having played alongside Neil at Sunderland, McGeady has firsthand experience of the midfielder's abilities.

He said Neil is "very, very focused," a "very good trainer," and "totally dedicated to his craft."

McGeady also highlighted Neil's technical skills, intelligence, and ability to simplify the game.

The former Celtic player admitted he thought Neil, who he said was fantastic for Sunderland when he was there as they got promoted, then went to Ipswich and they got promoted too, would be a good fit for his former club.

He told the Go Radio Football Show: "I know he’s a Rangers signing, but before that, I was like ‘Celtic could look at him.’"

McGeady was surprised that Rangers managed to sign Neil, who was out of contract, on a free transfer.

He said: "I was actually surprised that he went to Rangers, because I was messaging him saying ‘you’re better than this’."
