A community-based football club in Uddingston has successfully bid to take over its playing facilities from North Lanarkshire Council.
Councillors accepted an offer from Moorlands Football Club, a grassroots sports organisation and registered charity, for Spindlehowe Park.
The club aims to invest £250,000 into Spindlehowe, including a renovated pavilion and community hub with new changing rooms, showers, and accessible toilets to support grassroots football, as well as other community events and wellbeing programmes catering to all ages.

With the pitch also currently in poor condition, the club envisions a total makeover here too, promising new drainage, goalposts, secure fencing, and training areas.
Although estimates put Spindlehowe’s value at £40,000-£45,000, the council has agreed to sell it for £20,000, with this discount justified by the potential community benefit under the new owners.
Bosses from various council departments thoroughly evaluated the club’s bid and recommended the asset transfer request be approved, describing Moorlands FC as "a stable and well-governed organisation with an established track record of delivering community benefit through grassroots sport".
The communities committee was unanimous in its agreement and the transfer was therefore approved, although further assurances on certain aspects relating to the funding of the planned redevelopment will still be required.
