Easterhouse community centre graffiti prompts police probe

The defaced building is the Greater Easterhouse Supporting Hands (GESH) Community Centre on Redcastle Square.

The 'art' now slapped on one of its walls depicts a parody of the Free Derry mural reading: "You are now entering Free Gar-T."

GESH took to Facebook to reveal it had obtained CCTV footage of the vandalism and supplied it to Police Scotland in the hope of catching those responsible.

Their post read: "To whoever did this, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves.

"Here we are, working extremely hard to try to improve the facilities available for ALL the community, and this is the thanks we get!

"You should be aware that we have CCTV footage of the perpetrators and this information will be passed to the police.

"This is just such a shame. We are trying so, so hard to improve our centre, and here we are having to pay hundreds of pounds to clean up after the actions of a few individuals."

The investigation is now underway, as a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.45pm on Thursday, August 27, 2026, officers received a report of vandalism at a premises on Redcastle Square, Glasgow.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Situated in the heart of Easterhouse, the centre offers a positive hub of community, friendship and care to more than 600 members, particularly those with mental and physical disabilities, and has done so for decades.

Those years spent serving the community have built goodwill, leaving locals just as angry about the incident as the organisation itself.

One Facebook commenter said: "This is absolutely disgusting. Defacing buildings with graffiti serves no purpose. Some people just drag the place down."
