Kate Garraway launched a defence for her Good Morning Britain colleague Susanna Reid today, saying that she had been unfairly "attacked" for the remarks Piers Morgan made on his time hosting the show.

The 54-year-old said that when Piers said something inflammatory on the ITV show, Susanna would often end up getting a lot of the criticism too.

This came up as a topic following an interview with former England footballer and current Derby County manager Wayne Rooney, as a note was made about how his wife Coleen Rooney had received some criticisms as well for some of his past actions.

Garraway said: "It was interesting how [Wayne] had picked up on something that I think we've all picked on which is when he's had indiscretions, made mistakes, obviously he's been criticised for it but she is as well in a kind of, 'Why are you forgiving him? Why are you keeping him under control?'

"It's interesting how women often get accused of it.

"It reminds me a little bit of when Piers Morgan was here, they'd be cross with something Piers had said, but then also attack Susanna for not keeping him in check!"

Morgan infamously left Good Morning Britain last year following criticisms he had aimed at Meghan Markle, which then led to him walking off the set after he then faced backlash for it.

The topic of women being blamed for despite men's actions has also been brought up with Carrie Symonds, wife of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, also receiving criticism for some of his actions.
