A MOTORIST was caught driving under the influence of drugs while on bail for the same offence.

Meysam Rafiee, 32, was snared behind the wheel after taking cannabis in Glasgow city centre on July 10, 2021.

He was also found with a blade and arrested at the scene before being released to appear at court.

Rafiee was then stopped again in the city centre on September 8, 2021 where he admitted to officers he had taken “a reefer” before setting off.

Rafiee pleaded guilty on Friday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to two charges of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He also admitted the unlawful possession of a knife in a public place.

The court heard officers were drawn to Rafiee who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Pulsar in the city centre as he was “weaving in and out of traffic.”

His car was stopped and a strong smell of cannabis was discovered by officers.

Rafiee's speech was slurred and his eyes were red and bloodshot.

A lock back knife was also found which angred Rafiee as officers opened it.

Rafiee told them: "Just came from London and it's dangerous."

He was arrested, cautioned and charged and released on bail.

A member of the public contacted police on September 9 after chatting to Rafiee at a petrol station in the city's Woodlands.

The witness claimed Rafiee was "not making sense" and unsteady on his feet.

Officers traced Rafiee to Sauchiehall Street where he was arrested.

Prosecutor Alasdair Knox said: "Rafiee openly admitted he had consumed a cannabis reefer a short term prior to being stopped by the police."

He was caution and charged and held in custody to appear at court the next day.

Paul Langan, defending, told the court: "The second charge occurred a few days after he was granted bail.

"He has been in custody since September 19."

Sentence was deferred until next month pending background reports by sheriff Andrew Cubie who granted bail meantime.
