A POPULAR Mexican restaurant in Glasgow's West End will close ahead of its relocation.

El Jefe's announced to its customers on Instagram that it will be closed from today, March 28, as it prepares to move to a new location.

It comes after plans for a new pub, The Bakehouse, which will take over the Kelvinbridge unit, were approved last month.

Bosses at the Mexican bar and eatery have not yet revealed how long the establishment will remain closed.

The new location also remains secret, but they have asked customers to keep an eye on social media for further announcements.

The Instagram post included a picture of El Jefe's iconic message board reading "it's not a goodbye, it's a see you later".

The caption read: "Never have truer words been spoken by El Jefe.

"Keep an eye on our socials because you don't wanna miss what's coming."

Pub chain Greene King had lodged the plans for the site of 510 Great Western Road in January, which were then approved by Glasgow City Council in late February.

The unit will undergo a full refurbishment and the new spot will feature a main bar serving craft beers, fine wines, and coffee, and an entirely refurbished lounge areas with new screens.
