A WEATHER warning has been issued for parts of Strathclyde.

It comes after Glasgow welcomed spring with a mini heatwave last week, but it looks like it will be some time before we see milder days again.

The yellow warning for ice comes into force tonight, at 8pm, and will stay in place until Thursday morning, at 10am.

Temperatures in Glasgow are set to plummet to 0 degrees overnight, after the mercury hit almost 20 at the weekend.

The area affected covers North and South Lanarkshire, drawing close to the outskirts of Glasgow, in Shotts, Carluke and Lanark.

The Met Office is warning residents of possible icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths “leading to an increased chance of accidents or injuries”.

Today will be mostly cloudy in the city, with heavy showers developing in the evening.

Clear skies are predicted on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, but they will change to cloudy with possible showers by lunchtime.

In other parts of the country, some higher elevation roads may also be affected by snowfall, resulting in longer journey times.

The warning covers the whole of Scotland’s east coast, from Shetland to the Scottish Borders, and encompasses part of the inland.
