FURIOUS concertgoers have hit out at a city music venue claiming they were denied entry to an event they spent almost £200 on tickets for.

A number of young fans attending Stormzy’s gig at the OVO Hydro on Monday night were reportedly denied entry to the concert after the venue ran out of wristbands.

Karine McGowan, from Paisley, says she is "raging" after her 17-year-old daughter and friends couldn't get into the gig despite having valid tickets that cost them £180.

Karine says their tickets were scanned upon entering the venue, but her daughter and friends were not handed the wristbands which were required to get into their section.

She said: "They weren’t able to get into the designated area they were in, they just kept getting told they had to go back to where the wristbands were handed out and then they told them they had all been given out and there was no more to be had.

"They had their tickets scanned, bags searched, everything, but it was when they tried to get to the bit they were supposed to go to they couldn’t get in.

"They were told if they left to try and get back in again they would be refused entry and they got sent to the booking office but the booking office was closed."

Karine’s daughter and friends eventually had to give up and take a taxi home without getting to see the Vossi Bop rapper perform.

She said: "She was absolutely raging and I’m just really raging.

"They were all excited, they were all full of fun and couldn’t wait to see someone and I’m just really upset because I don’t like when my kids are upset, especially when it’s something that should have been avoided.

"You can’t just pay £180 for tickets and then not get in because they don’t have a wristband for you."

Cerys Gamble, 18, and her partner travelled from Dunfermline to see the multi-award-winning rapper but says they were almost denied entry after they were also not issued a wristband when their ticket was initially scanned.

She said: "We got in but we never got given a wristband, at this point we had no idea we even needed a wristband to get into the standing bit, and we went straight to the toilets at the standing bit and the security guard told us we weren’t allowed to get in because we didn’t have wristbands.

"We tried to ask what do we do but he said he didn’t know.

"We went to the help desk and they said we had to go back outside and ask the security guards outside, so I went outside and the security guard said ‘I can’t give you it because you’ve already been inside’.

"I spoke to another one and she rescanned my tickets and she said ‘I can’t let you in because it says you’ve already been in’."

Thankfully, after explaining the situation they were given two of the last remaining wristbands and were able to get in, but Cerys says she was "hounded" by others inside the venue as she stood holding her partners wristband.

She said: "The amount of people that were coming up to me about trying to get this wristband off me because they ran out was unbelievable.

"Somebody tried to take it off me and everything."

A Scottish Event Campus, which owns the Hydro, spokesperson said: "We are aware of the small number of social media posts which have appeared in relation to the Stormzy event.

"We would urge anyone who feels they’ve been wrongfully denied entry to get in touch via our website, and we will investigate this as a matter of urgency."
