A much loved West End cafe will shut at the end of the month due to the mounting pressures of the cost of living crisis.

Caffe Pieno on Crow Road shared the news of its closure in an emotional post on Facebook this morning stating "after a tough few years, we just can’t carry on."

A member of the team said: "We managed to survive during the pandemic and we thought if we could survive that we could survive anything.

"But to now be faced with rising costs at every turn, we have had to make the difficult decision to close the cafe at the end of the month."

Owners took the time to thank their loyal customers for their years of support adding: "Our customers… what can we say… you have become our friends.

"We’ve watched kids grow up and go from eating strawberries to ordering babycinos, hot chocolate and of course a cake!

"We’ve shared in your celebrations (birthday hats and singing voices were always at the ready) and we’ve cried with you for those we’ve lost along the way."

Since the shock announcement, regulars have been expressing their sadness at the news and sharing fond memories of past visits.

One said: "Absolutely gutted that our favourite cafe is closing. Such a shame. Thank you all for you’re awesome service and friendship over the past few years.

Another added: "Oh no!! I’m gutted. You guys are just brilliant and we love popping in for Saturday lunch! So sorry to hear this."

The Cafe has yet to share an official date for its last day but has said it will be at the end of April.
