EERIE images show the aftermath of a fire that ripped through a listed school building in Glasgow's Bridgeton last night. 

Fire crews were alerted to a blaze at Bernard Terrace around 11.43pm on Friday, April 22. 

A dozen appliances attended and the fire service was still on the scene this morning. 

The fire broke out at the former Queen Mary Street Nursery, with images showing flames engulfing the building and a column of smoke visible from a distance.

MP for Glasgow Central Alison Thewliss also tweeted about the fire, posting pictures of the aftermath showing fire crews still at work.

She wrote: "By a quirk of fate it's 13 years to the day since Labour voted to close Queen Mary Street nursery.

"Desperately sad to see a place in ruins which was once so loved by the community.

"Thinking of all the visits I had as a Councillor and the warmth of the staff. It was lovely."

Police were also in attendance and are carrying out enquiries to establish the cause of the fire. 

No injuries were reported.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.43pm on Friday, April 22, to a building fire on Bernard Terrace. 

"12 appliances, including 3 height appliances, were in attendance to scene of a derelict building.

"There are no casualties and crews remain in attendance."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers attended reports of a fire at Queen Mary Street in Bridgeton at a derelict building around 11.50pm on Friday, 22 April, 2022. 

"No-one was injured and enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.”
