The alarm was raised for the fire service yesterday evening when a local claimed to have seen a fire near the fossil grove at Victoria Park in the West End.

Firefighters confirmed that they had been dispatched to the area at Westland Drive to check the area.

They left after establishing that there was no fire or smoke.
