A new programme focusing on improving employability skills will begin at the Glasgow Fort this week.

Launching in the Fort's customer service sweet on May 16, the initiative will provide placements and training for young people to help them develop their abilities.

This includes any relevant SCQF rated courses such as first aid and health & safety.

The new programme is run in partnership with FARE Scotland, an Easterhouse based charity that works to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in the local community.

Glasgow Times:

Bernie Devlin, employability manager at FARE Scotland, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer FARE Scotland’s employability programme with the support of Glasgow Fort.

"The centre is the primary retail destination for many people in the area, so having it as a hub for our new programme makes it simple for them to drop in and enquire.

“Having the support of Glasgow Fort and its retailers means that we can support a wider reach of local people looking to upskill or kickstart their career in retail.”

Glasgow Times:

Through the initiative, retailers at the Glasgow Fort will also be able to give staff the opportunity to gain or develop skills through the programme.

Phil Goodman, centre director at Glasgow Fort, added: “We’re always looking for opportunities to support our local community where and when we can and our new partnership with FARE Scotland does just that.

“FARE’s programmes don’t only offer a stepping stone for those looking to gain the necessary experience but will also help them to develop relationships with future employers.”
