A MAN will stand trial accused of assaulting a 62-year-old woman.

Scot Phinn, 36, allegedly attacked Elizabeth McGurk at a property in Glasgow's Royston on December 14, 2021.

Court papers state Phinn repeatedly spat on her face, seized hold of her body, pushed, pulled and struggled with her.

Phinn faces a second charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the same time and place.

He is said to have entered the flat uninvited, shouted, swore, uttered threats of violence and behaved in an aggressive manner.

A final charge claims that Phinn - while conscious of his guilt - told potential witness Frances Cooper not to disclose what he did to the authorities.

It is claimed this was done with intent to pervert the course of justice and did attempt to pervert the course of justice.

Phinn pleaded not guilty last week at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the three charges.

His lawyer Stephen Dryden said: "The defence is prepared for trial, the trial is estimated to last two to three days."

Prosecutor Jennifer McKee told the court that the Crown is also ready for trial.

Sheriff Matthew Jackson QC set a trial for next January and continued Phinn's bail.
