DAMAGE caused after fans gathered at Glasgow Cross to celebrate Celtic winning the league has been repaired as the council deem it 'totally unacceptable'.

The Glasgow City Council roads department previously issued a warning that traffic signals in the area were in darkness due to 'damage sustained' from the gathering of fans.

At 12.25pm they confirmed that the damage had been repaired and that the lights are fully operational.

Celtic supporters in their hundreds gathered at the Trongate and Merchant City to celebrate their team lifting the Premiership trophy after a 6-0 win against Motherwell.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland said that although there was an 'unacceptable' amount of anti-social behaviour and littering and six arrests were made, there were no serious incidents.

Traffcom bulletins issued yesterday evening indicated that the road had been closed from 3.35pm until 11.20pm on Saturday, with the traffic lights out overnight.

A council spokeswoman said: “Repairs were made to the traffic lights as quickly as possible but it is totally unacceptable for people to think it is okay to cause damage to key infrastructure in the city.”
