An enterprising Bearsden schoolgirl is preparing to host a tea party in honour of her gran this month.
Sanna, a pupil at Killermont Primary, is taking part in a 'Tea & Blether' campaign by Alzheimer Scotland to raise vital funds for the charity.
It's a personal project for the nine-year-old whose grandmother, Elizabeth Galloway was diagnosed with dementia in 2013.
Sanna’s mum, Jill, said: “We had suspected something was wrong for some time.
"It was a very challenging time for the family; mum was determined that no one was to know, and that included me and my older brother.
"Her friends were also becoming increasingly concerned about her."
Although Sanna was only seven when her gran was moved to the Antonine House Care Home, the youngster fondly remembers “playing restaurants and cafés” in the garden with her granny, grandpa and younger sister Nuala.
Jill said: “Unfortunately, my mum doesn’t know who Sanna is anymore, but when Sanna was younger and granny was much more able, they used to spend a lot of time playing together.
“It’s really sad; because the girls were very young when my mum was diagnosed, it’s hard for them to remember the way she used to be so I keep reminding them granny’s not always been the way she is now.”
As a keen baker, Sanna has decided to put her skills to use by hosting 15 friends and family in her for and event garden during Dementia Awareness Week from May 30 to June 5.
Following in the footsteps of her gran, who was also a whizz in the kitchen, she hopes to bake a range of treats from lemon drizzle cake to chocolate brownies.
Jill said: “Sanna had a dream during lockdown of hosting a café in the garden and raising money for Alzheimer Scotland so her dream is becoming a reality.
“It’s quite daunting, but I don’t want her growing up thinking that we just don’t do things because they’re too hard."
