A THUG who fractured a man's jaw during a fight on the street faces jail.

Allan Clark pounced on Stephen McAreavey in Glasgow's Garngad area on October 20, 2020.

The 44-year-old, of the city's Maryhill, used a street bolder and glass bottle to strike McAreavey in front of witnesses.

McAreavey meantime exchanged blows with Clark leaving him with a possible cheek to eye fracture.

Clark pleaded guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by engaging in a stand-up fight where both men sustained serious injuries.

McAreavey is currently serving a jail sentence after admitting an assault on Clark.

The court heard witnesses spotted the pair and another unknown man fighting outside a takeaway.

Prosecutor Jennifer McKee said: "Both were exchanging blows on one another and both were covered in blood."

Police attended and watched footage of the men pushing each other before "exchanging blows to the head and body."

Miss McKee added: "Clark was seen to take possession of a traffic bollard and used this as a weapon on McAreavey.

"The fight spread out across the road and lasted for approximately 10 minutes."

Officers found both men with facial injuries and were taken to hospital.

McAreavey was found to have bruising and redness to his cheeks and eye.

He also sustained wounds to the bridge of his nose, cheeks, chin and ear as well as the fractured lower jaw and tooth.

Four screws were inserted into his jaw and the tooth was removed.

He told medics that he was hit with a street bollard and a glass bottle.

Clark meantime had wounds to his nose, forehead and eyebrow.

Miss Terrance added: "An x-ray showed a possible left fracture to the cheek to the eye."

Stephen Grady, defending, told the court that the fight was fuelled by alcohol and that Clark - a cleaner - has abstained from drink since October.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by sheriff Matthew Jackson QC.

He told Clark: "As matters stand, [what will happen to you] is what happened to your co-accused, but I will keep an open mind."
