A SUSPECT has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in North Lanarkshire.

Samuel Hamilton, 56, was found seriously injured by his elderly mother outside his home in Thorndean Avenue, Bellshill, at around 11.30pm last Wednesday.

Emergency services attended, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Saturday, Police Scotland confirmed that Richard Wotherspoon, 32, had been arrested and charged in connection with Mr Hamilton’s death.

Wotherspoon, of Bellshill, made no plea to the murder charge when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.

The case was committed for further examination with Wotherspoon remanded in custody meantime. He is due to return to court within the next eight days.
