THIS week’s column IS related to last week’s Europa League Final in Seville however IS NOT anything to do with the result, club involved or any who has had the best season debate.

Rather, it’s to highlight the slightly bad luck which befell the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund charity in that their annual golf day fundraiser ended up clashing with the big game.

That’s not to say it spoiled the event, however, it did end up being a day of two halves, football parlance fully intended.

Hats off to the organisers who were fully committed to the annual fundraising golf day at Haggs Castle Golf Club last Wednesday and had no option but to press on even when Rangers made the final, only a few weeks before the big day.

And so a day of two halves it was …

The high noon shotgun start for dozens of generous golf-playing drivers, families, friends, colleagues and contacts all assembled in the city’s Southside in the name of raising money for the famous old trip.

And talking about being “only a few weeks before the big day”, that’s exactly where we are at as you read this.

The 75th annual Glasgow Taxi outing to Troon takes place three weeks today – Wednesday,

June 15 – and you should mark that date in the diary right now, join us on the day and give all those wonderful children the big colourful Kelvin Way send-off they deserve.

Back to the golf, for now however and that day of two halves – the tradition of the event being an afternoon of golf being followed by an evening of food and drink, entertainment plus an auction and a raffle.

That’s been standard for the mid-May Wednesday evening for years, except this was no ordinary mid May Wednesday evening.

Turns out a fair chunk of the golfers – let’s say around half – had somewhere else they had to be by 8 pm. Take a guess ...

Football, eh!

Anyway, I was pleased to hear the overall event was still a massive success with thousands of pounds raised to help fund this year’s long-awaited trip.

A huge congrats to the charity and all the organisers, as well as all those who took part, whether for the full day or half.

That money will be put to very good use come June 15 – hope to see you there.

Stay safe.
