A person has died following an incident on a railway track this morning.

At around 11:45 am ScotRail reported that trains between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts are subject to delays, cancellation or revision due to an 'emergency services incident'.

A spokesperson for the firm said: "Due to an incident involving the emergency services, train services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts may be cancelled, delayed or revised."

British Trasport Police later confirmed that the disruption was due to a casualty at Cambuslang station.

A BTP spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to Cambuslang station at 10:49 am today, May 27 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Bus replacement services are now running from Holytown to Glasgow central.
