A SUBWAY station in Glasgow's Southside will close early today amid continued "operational issues".

SPT took to Twitter to apologise and warn passengers on Friday morning.

The tweet read: "Apologies all, West Street station will close at 3pm today.

"This is due to operational issues.

"Once again we apologise for the inconvenience."

What does "operational issues" mean in the Glasgow Subway?

"Operational issues" have forced SPT to close subway stations over the past few months.

A spokesperson had told the Glasgow Times: "Operational issues is the availability of staff to cover the Subway system.

"Our staff numbers have been adversely affected by a number of issues including staff turnover, the ongoing Covid pandemic and a high number of staff having to self-isolate often at short notice ie on the day or time of their shift beginning.

"This does mean we are often forced to make sudden changes to keep the majority of the system running.

"We are actively recruiting within Subway to help deal with the current staffing issues and have a number of new staff undergoing assessment at the moment."
