POSTAL services have 'ground to a halt' as office workers take strike action in Glasgow today.

Around 50 members of the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) walked out today, June 6, and are staging a picket line outside the Post Office Limited at Royston House.

The strike action affects all cash delivery and collection services in Scotland

Photos shared on social media by CWU show Glasgow workers as well as groups across the country at their picket lines, which they say has been well-received by the public.

They are holding placards that read: "Post Office can afford a pay rise for its key workers."

It is understood that Post Office employees are striking due to the 'insulting' 2.5% pay increase and £500 one-off payment they were offered after being key workers during the pandemic.

CWU rep Carole Bowmaker said: "Across the country, operations have ground to a halt at Post Office Limited.

“This is a reflection of how workers feel over Post Office’s ill-conceived policy on pay.

“We thank the public, who have given us a massive amount of sympathy and solidarity, and we urge Post Office Limited to wise up and get back around the table and resolve this dispute.”
