A UKRAINIAN hairdresser who had to flee her home has found work in Lanarkshire thanks to a kind-hearted business owner.

Luidmyla Holomovza left Lviv in Western Ukraine at the end of April due to the war with Russia and was taken in by a generous Strathaven family.

After struggling to find employment and working from her host's house for a few weeks, she was offered a role at a Hamilton beauty practice.

Hair By Luda operates out of FTT Skin Clinics and officially opened for clients last week.

About her first impressions, Luidmyla said: "The people of Lanarkshire have been very kind to us both, me and my son.

"Everyone we have met in Scotland has been very friendly and helpful.

"Coming from a war where we have seen the worst of humanity, it has been heartwarming to see how kind and caring people can be to strangers. We have seen the best of humanity here in Scotland."

Before the war broke out, the 44-year-old worked as a hairdresser for over a decade.

She added: "I am not someone who wants charity, I am someone who wants to work and to pay back to this country that has helped us so much.

"I was given the opportunity to do this and I am very grateful for that. Hairdressing has always been my passion and I love my work. I have trained with many international stylists and worked in prestigious salons in Lviv."

Aesthetic nurse Frances Turner-Traill, who runs the clinic, said: “It was never my game plan to have a hairdresser in our clinic but coming from a war-torn country as a refugee, I would just like to give her a platform to rebuild her life.

“Our patients and staff are 100% behind this, we just want to give her a hand and see how she gets on.

“Who knows what the future holds as she rebuilds her life and business.

“I very much want this to be her business, I am happy to facilitate it but everything belongs to her."
