A MAN was charged following a one-vehicle crash that resulted in a fire.

Emergency services were called to a vehicle engulfed in flames shortly after midnight following reports of a collision near St Mungo's Academy in Gallowgate.

The road was closed for several hours as police officers launched an appeal to find the car's driver.

The force has now confirmed that the person has been traced safe and well and a 35-year-old man has been charged with several road traffic offences.

Chief Inspector Scott Simpson, of Greater Glasgow policing, said: “The driver of the car involved in a crash on Gallowgate, Glasgow at around 12.10am on Thursday, June 16, 2022 has been traced safe and well.

“A 35-year-old man has been charged with a number of road traffic-related offences.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 0.08 am on Thursday, June 16 to reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a car on the Gallowgate, Glasgow. 

"Operations control immediately mobilised two appliances and firefighters extinguished the fire which had taken hold of the vehicle. 

"There were no reports of any casualties.

"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe."
