THE home ground of a grassroots football team in Glasgow’s West End has been vandalised.

The fencing at the Budhill Park football pitch in Shettleston, which is being leased by Glasgow Girls & Women FC, was damaged at some point on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, club bosses discovered shutters for pouring concrete were smashed and fence posts had been pushed over during the night.

This was the first act of vandalism at the site, where the club has been erecting fencing as part of their 25-year lease arrangements with Glasgow City Council agreed in 2017.

A spokesperson for the club said: “All we know it was okay [on Thursday] night at 8pm.

“It’s quite sickening that these girls are looking forward to playing in a much-improved pitch, with no glass, needles or dog dirt and this happens.

“To damage it is inexcusable.”

Police Scotland confirmed the incident.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that this damage was reported to police on Friday, June 17.”
