A MAN was rushed to hospital with serious injuries as a result of a "violent physical attack" in Greenock this morning.

The attack took place around 2.55am on Sunday, June 19, outside the Word Up nightclub in Dalrymple Street.

The 20-year-old victim was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

Police are now hunting the attacker and appealing to taxi drivers or anyone attending the club for any information.

A male suspect is described as being in his early 20s, and was seen wearing a dark jumper, light trousers and white trainers.

Detective Inspector Nikki Wake of CID said : “The man sustained a violent physical attack, which resulted in him being treated for serious injuries in hospital.

“Our enquiries into the assault are ongoing and we are carrying out a review of CCTV.

“The male suspect is described as being early 20s, wearing a dark jumper, light trousers and white trainers.

“We are keen to talk to anyone who may have been in the area around the time of this incident to get in touch with us.

"I would particularly appeal to taxi drivers or those who attended the club to come forward if you witnessed the assault.
