A VOLUNTEER-LED organisation that provides affordable and healthy food and recipes to the local community in the East End is closing down.

East End Flat-Pack Meals announced the news on their Facebook page, where they said they will return after a rebrand, as a brand-new organisation, still aiming to support the local people.

The post read: "It is with a heavy heart that we will be moving out of the premises at the hub and will be leaving on July 29. We wanted to thank the people of Wellhouse for making us feel so welcome and giving us so many memories to take away.

"We are not moving to new premises and we have made the decision to stop services for a while as we rebrand and move our project on to other means of support and delivery. This may take a while so bear with us.

"However, this decision has not come easy. As most of you are aware Jackie our manager has volunteered endless hours over seven years to this project. She is working full-time hours with very little or no pay, and it's time she has a break."

Later in the emotional message, they thanked everyone who supported them in the past seven years and promised to return.

Organisations and individuals in the comments wished all the best to the volunteers.

The page of an initiative said: "Good luck in whatever comes next and thank you for all the support to our young people and our project. You are all amazing and whatever you do it will always be delivered with the 100% commitment you give to everything."

One service user added: "I'm so sorry it's come to this! You will be greatly missed. Thank you for all you did for Wellhouse and especially thanks for all the Flat Pack soups etc you prepared for me.

"It was a great help with my weight loss. Good luck in the future. I look forward to hearing what comes next!"
