SCOTRAIL has issued a warning to Liam Gallagher fans heading to see the singer at Hampden this Sunday.

Those travelling from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida or Kings Park are being urged to travel to the stadium early or use alternative transport due to a reduced hourly service being in place as a result of the temporary Sunday timetable.

There will also be no trains back to the city centre after the concert ends at 10.30pm.

Prior to the concert, ScotRail is recommending customers buy tickets through the mTickets system to avoid queueing at Glasgow Central.

In addition, the train operator is reminding customers that due to strike action by Network Rails members of RMT on Saturday, signal boxes across Scotland will be opened at different times throughout the day on Sunday.

This could mean some routes will not be able to operate until later in the day.

Network Rail engineering will also be taking place in the Haymarket and Barrhead areas meaning replacement buses will run on the following routes;

  • Glasgow Central and East Kilbride
  • Edinburgh Waverley and Linlithgow
  • Edinburgh Waverley and Falkirk Grahamston
  • Edinburgh Waverley and Bathgate

Customers travelling from Carlisle and Dumfries are being advised to consider alternate transport.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail head of customer operations, said:  "We’ll be doing what we can to help Liam Gallagher fans travel to Hampden Park on Sunday, but customers should plan ahead as services will be impacted by Saturday’s Network Rail RMT strike action, engineering work near Haymarket and Barrhead, and by the temporary timetable we currently have in place.

"Services between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida, and between Glasgow Central and Kings Park are expected to be exceptionally busy due the reduced temporary Sunday timetable, so we’re encouraging customers to travel to the stadium early if they can or consider what alternative transport is available.

"Customers should also be aware that there will be no trains from Mount Florida or Kings Park after the event finishes, so we urge everyone to plan ahead, check their entire journey, and know their travel options."

Customers are reminded that carrying and drinking alcohol is banned on ScotRail services.
