A second play park crammed with new equipment has opened in Paisley’s Foxbar within a matter of weeks.

Children and families can now enjoy the area at Durrockstock Park, which has a host of accessible and inclusive facilities.

The park - one of 11 revamped following a £1m investment from Renfrewshire Council - has been unveiled to the public three weeks after a similar project in the nearby Morar Drive.

Councillor Stephen Burns, whose ward includes both parks, was thrilled to see the completion of the latest space.

The depute convener of the Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board said: “I’m delighted to see this play park open to children and families with the summer holidays just around the corner.

“This is another facility, which is packed full of brilliant equipment, including a number of swings, a slide, a zipline and a wheelchair-accessible roundabout.

“It encourages local people to get outside and make the most of the nice weather as the school holidays approach.

“Our parks and play areas are crucial for families in Renfrewshire, which the council recognises and that is why this investment was made.

“The nearby schools and nurseries can also use the equipment while they are out on walks.”

The SNP man also cited the importance of parks for people’s mental health and wellbeing.

He added: “It is so beneficial for families to have somewhere to meet with their children in the community.”

Earlier this month, work was completed on the play park in Morar Drive, which also represented a boost to the local area.

Schools, community groups and councillors had previously been asked what they think should be included in their area, with this feedback shaping the plans for each play park.

Providing safe spaces for children to play in was earmarked as a key priority by Councillor Burns and his Paisley Southwest colleague provost Lorraine Cameron following the election in May.

Glasgow Times:

Councillor Cameron said at the time: “My priority is providing safe places for children to play, a process already begun with the imminent installation of new play parks in Morar Drive and Durrockstock Park.

“Councillor Stephen Burns and I are discussing a proposal for a play park in the Braehead Road area of Glenburn and we hope to deliver that in the near future.

“Our environment is very important to me. It is essential that we retain green spaces for our community to enjoy and in certain places we could increase the use of them by improving the infrastructure.”
