A suspect will stand trial accused of extorting cash from two men by pretending to be other people.

Steven Adams, 34, allegedly put a man in a state of alarm and apprehension at unknown locations in Glasgow between September and October 2017.

Court papers state Adams pretended to be a female named Kirsty Munro.

It is claimed Adams encouraged the man to partake in exchange of intimate images which showed the alleged victim in an "intimate situation”.

The charge claims Adams did this by contacting him on social media app Whisper falsely claiming that Kirsty Munro was a child.

It is alleged that Adams then pretended to be the father and uncle of Kirsty Munro.

Adams is said to have threatened the man that he would contact the police and report him for sending intimate images to a child which the accused knew to be false.

Adams is said to have told the alleged victim that he would refrain from contacting the authorities if £3165 was sent to him.

A similar charge claims Adams pretended to be a person named "Steph" and threatened to disclose intimate images of another man.

Adams allegedly contacted the second man on Snapchat pretending to be the partner of Steph.

He is also said to have told the man that the partner was involved in organised crime and uttered threats towards him.

The charge goes on to claim that Adams said he would attend the man's place of education and made a telephone call to it asking for his whereabouts.

The man's sister was also allegedly contacted and Adams told her that he knew where she worked.

Allegations go on to say that Adams - using the same father and uncle alias from the first charge - left reviews on the second man's sister's business Facebook page.

These allegedly made references to members of her family and voice notes were sent requesting money from her brother.

A telephone and video call were also said to have been made to her.

Adams allegedly tried to extort £280 from the second man.

On Friday, Adams pleaded not guilty to the two charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A trial was fixed for October this year by Sheriff Iain Fleming.

Adams, of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, had his bail continued meantime.
