Large groups of teens have been spotted dressed to the nines in Glasgow city centre of late leaving many questioning what they are up to.

In a bizarre explanation, the outings are part of the latest TikTok craze that sees youngsters dig out their finest formal wear to see the new film Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Dubbed the 'Gentleminions' trend, videos are posted on the social media platform featuring young men, and sometimes women, dressed in matching dark suits, ties and sunglasses for mass cinema visits.

A common theme is to line up one by one on escalators and stare straight ahead as they slowly pass by the camera.

The idea behind the videos is to enjoy the absurd contrast of the teens gathering and conducting themselves in such a serious manner as they venture out to view a children's film.

There have already been multiple examples of young people in Glasgow getting involved in the action by visiting Cineworld and Vue to take in the animated movie starring Steve Carrell.

Below one of the posts, a TikTok user commented: "Proud of the gentlemen that showed up."

Another added: "I’m addicted to this trend I can’t wait to join."

As the trend quickly grows in popularity, with some videos racking up millions of views, it seems we could see many more 'Gentleminions' descend on the city this weekend.
